Paul E. Lakeman, FACHE, CFRE has joined CALS as its Executive Director. Paul joins CALS after retiring from a thirty year career at Bayhealth Medical Center, in Dover, DE where he served as the Senior Vice President for Government Relations and External Affairs. In that role, he also had executive responsibility for numerous operational departments including marketing and the organization’s foundation.
Prior to joining the medical center, Paul held staff positions at Newport News Shipbuilding and Ethyl Corporation, in Virginia. His early career included serving as a newspaper editor and in healthcare marketing.
Paul holds degrees in Journalism from Rider University in New Jersey and a Master’s in Health Administration from Duke University in North Carolina. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a Certified Fund Raising Executive.
His involvement in community activities included serving as Chairman of the Delmarva Rural Health Initiative, Vice President of the Mental Health Association of Delaware, and he served on the boards of the St. Anne’s School, March of Dimes Delaware Chapter, and the Downtown Dover Partnership. He is also a past President of the Dover Rotary.
His Minnesota connection is his daughter, Kirsten, who is a certified music therapist at Folkestone in Wayzata, MN and works independently at Music Sense, LLC in Minneapolis with adults and adolescents.
His wife Brenda works for Delaware Governor Jack Markell as a Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget responsible for Statewide Benefits and Human Resources. His daughter Libby is an Admission’s Counselor at Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, PA.
