Defibrillator Algorithm
| Unresponsive-911-AED • Check if
unresponsive/not breathing
• Activate emergency system. • Obtain AED. |
| • Circulation: Check for pulse and signs of circulation (no more than 10 seconds). |
No
Circulation| Perform CPR • Perform CPR until
AED is ready to attach.
• Do not delay AED use when available. |
AED
on Scene - Follow AED Instructions| Attempt
Defibrillation • POWER ON the AED
• ATTACH AED electrodes. (Stop chest compressions to place pads.) • ANALYZE rhythm. (“Clear” patient) • SHOCK (“Clear”) PEDS: Age < 8 years: use pediatric pads/settings if available |
Resume CPR
for 5 Cycles (approximately 2 minutes)| • Check for a pulse and signs of circulation. |
If
Signs of Circulation are Absent| • Press ANALYZE. • Follow AED instructions. • Resume CPR and repeat cycle as needed. |
