Disability Skills 2:
Raney Scalp Clips
Raney scalp clips are simple but extremely useful devices. Pools of blood often collect behind the heads of head injury patients with scalp wounds. It is not appropriate to stop resuscitation to sew a scalp wound. Raney clips allow for the temporary stoppage of bleeding until exploration and wound closure may be performed safely.
The clips do not close the wound. They pinch the wound edge to stop bleeding.
